Ebenezer, CBC Chess captain wins bronze

CBC Chess captain, Ebenezer Madamba gets bronze medal at National Scholars Chess championships.
Ebenezer Madamba, together with team mates from Bulawayo province took part in the at National Scholars Chess championships  held in Marondera on the 6th to 10th April.
Out of the 9 rounds played, Ebenezer won 5, drew 2 and lost 2. This placed him on third position overall and he got a bronze medal for Bulawayo Province.
In addition to that, Ebenezer will be part of the Zim team for 2017.

CBC Debate and Public Speaking Club shines once again.

The CBC Debate and Public Speaking Club travelled to Harare to take part in the Hellenic Academy International Tournament and once again emerged as winners of the tournament.

The National Benchmark Test is a “Readiness Test” which must be written by all students applying for University in South Africa.

Candidates from Zimbabwe are at a disadvantage in that the test is based on the syllabus for the South African Matric.

The CBC Chess Tournament which had been a self – supporting annual event all along has got a new sponsor and will be known as the “Equate Africa Chess Tournament” when it takes place on the 1st of April 2017.

The headline sponsor Equate Africa is an independent African property and construction consultancy providing managed solutions for clients investing in infrastructure, property and construction across the continent. One of its founding Directors is Nhlanhla Mtobi an old boy of the college. A multi – disciplinary sportsman in his school days, Mtobi represented the college at first team level in Rugby, Tennis and Soccer. He was selected as a Lower Six prefect and went on to become house captain for Patricians in his final year.

CBC commemorates International Water Day

March the 23rd is International Water Day. In recognition of the day, the school hosted Miss Devine Moyo an Edmund Rice associate who gave a presentation on how we can help conserve water, a precious resource that we have been blessed with. At the end of her speech, the school watched a video of Michael Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’ which addresses human effects on the environment such as deforestation and overfishing of the oceans.

CBC 2017 Cross-Country Competition

This year’s Cross Country Competition was off to a great start. The weather was cool and ideal for the long and exacting race. Starts for the different age groups were staggered to three. The U14 and U15 boys were off first, later followed by the U16 and U17 age groups while the U18 and U20 boys set off last.

Inter-house Athletics – Andreans are CBC champions again!

The 2017 CBC Inter-house Athletics began with a brand new event- the 4x400m added on to the various track and field events. The determination of the athletes and cheers of support from spectators in this event set the tone for the day.

The Inter-house Standards were held on the afternoon of Thursday 2 March marking the beginning of a 3 day athletics fest which culminated in the Inter-house Athletics on Saturday the 4th of March.

CBC Basketball wins silver at NASH top schools tournament

CBC’s Basketball team, the Angels, together with school teams from other districts took part in the Bulawayo province top schools tournament hosted by Eveline High school over the weekend.
Throughout the two-day tournament, the Angels showed a lot of depth and character as they went unbeaten from the group stages right up to the semi finals.

CBC Athletes fly the College flag high at Inter-schools athletics event

Members of the athletics team some of whom had very limited time to train due to other sports commitments put up a scintillating performance at the Imbizo District Inter schools competitions held at White City stadium on 13-14th February.  The team led by seniors; Ryan Wilson and Tinashe Famba (captains), Chadd Zaloumis (vice-captain) as well as Jordan Edwards (head boy) dominated both the field and track events and brought home a lion’s share of the medals on offer.

CANA Games: CBC students leave a mark

Zimbabwe Swimmers and Water polo players selected from all over the country all came together to form a strong Team Zim which faced 13 other countries in the 15th edition of the CANA Zone IV Games held at the Bulawayo pool over the exeat weekend. The countries involved were: Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Angola, Mauritius, Seychelles, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania and Madagascar.

CBC Triumphs at the ATS Senior Debate Tournament

The CBC Debate team were this weekend crowned as the champions of ATS High Schools Senior Debate Tournament which saw 20 teams taking part. The teams debated interesting motions such as, ‘We support the fees must fall movement,’ and ‘This house regrets Valentine’s Day’ among others.

CBC get bronze in the Arthur Gower tournament

CBC Sharks, coached by Old Boy, Matt Accorsi, put on a sterling performance in a highly contested weekend of waterpolo that, in the end, saw the St John’s Rams lift the Arthur Gower Trophy.  Six schools, being CBC, Falcon, St John’s, St George’s, Peterhouse and Hellenic took part in this round robin tournament held at the City Pool, in Bulawayo.  This competition served as a test run for the up and coming CANA Zone IV Waterpolo Championships which will be held at the same venue in 2 weeks time.  Spectators were treated to some first class displays of waterpolo by the country’s top school boy teams whose spirit and determination meant every game was a real challenge.
