CBC takes part at the Academy of Music Concert

On Friday 22nd October CBC was invited to a combined schools (CBC, Girls College and Falcon College) concert to assist as a fund raiser for the Zimbabwe Academy of Music “Keeping the Doors Open”, aptly titled due to the financial problems that the Academy is facing.

The CBC choir and The Chords did us proud as their commitment and dedication towards practices were impeccable against so many odds when there are compulsories also requiring their attention.

The students could be heard with their superb harmonies. The CBC boys sang 6 songs, while  Zachary Maidwell, accompanied on the piano for 2 songs, thereby showing the talent also that is in CBC school.

The first song we sung was Hava Nagila which got the audience clapping and enjoying from the slow start building up to a fiery finish.

A lady in the audience mentioned to Mrs. Burns that the CBC boys sang so well with excellent pronunciation, which brought tears to her eyes.

Another lady, commented that, having listened to the CBC choir a year ago and now, she noticed that there has been a great improvement.

After interval, was the time for us to really shine.  We started off with “Falling Slowly” from the movie Once, followed by “Unchained Melody” from Ghost (and many other movies).  The choir did extremely well with these songs that they loved.

The Chords then sang after other schools and showed their a’capella talent in harmonizing singing Can’t Help Falling in Love followed by a mash up of Stand By Me.  They had asked to harmonize behind Pieter Cloete (old CBC boy) with Hallelujah and he was so pleased to have them join him, making him proud to be an old boy and knowing that CBC still has amazing talent.

All the schools did extremely well, giving us a wonderful night of entertainment and all thoroughly enjoyed.  The comments we had from many people was nothing but praise for CBC.  We were the only school that had 6  individual items to sing whilst others had one or two.

Well done to all the students from CBC, Falcon and Girls College and to all the professional participants.  May the Academy doors remain open for many more years
