CBC Mourns the Passing Away of Mrs. Menne

It is with great sadness that the College records the passing away of Christina “Chris” Menne on Saturday 9th December 2017.

Chris served the College with true dedication and loyalty for 26 years – from January 1988 until her retirement in December 2014 – and even after retiring she would often return to offer support and help at various functions.

Beyond attaining consistently excellent results as an Afrikaans teacher (she was Head of Department from 2006,) Chris was equally committed to many extra-mural activities at the College over the years : from coaching junior basketball, to being a “water and oranges” lady for rugby, to doing recording at athletics and swimming events, to being Props Manager at school plays, to arranging gifts and farewell cards for retiring staff … the list goes on.

Chris was an exceptional educationalist, and an exceptional and selfless person who always “took a step forward” when needed. We shall all miss her terribly.

The deepest sympathies of the Board, the Headmaster, Staff and Pupils of CBC go out to Tony and the family at this time.

It was with great sadness I heard of Mevrou Menne’ passing. 7 years spent at CBC , 5 of which included my daily 35 minute Afrikaans les. What fun times – if ever there was a reason to look forward to waking up for school it was the thought of her warm greeting on our arrival to her class. Many years later those fun classes stand me in good steed as I navigate my way through Cape Town and sit down with my son (now in Grade 2) and attempt to help him with his Afrikaans homework.

Mag haar liewe siel in die Here se arms rus
