Capture the moments that make life worth living, was the mantra for the first Inter-Schools Media Festival, hosted by the CBC Media Club yesterday.

In a pioneering move, the club, one of the oldest in the country, invited clubs from all the other city schools to come together for an afternoon of networking, learning and sharing experiences.

The historic event, which saw professionals from the photographic, design and media industries giving presentations on their various areas of expertise, was represented by Falcon Photography Club, Dominican Convent Media Club, Milton Photography Club, Petra Media Club and the Girls’ College Media Club,

The team of professional invited included Mrs Rebecca Mano and Mr Chenjerai Katanda of the Schools Sports Network (SSN), Mr Anton Bhana of Creative Centre, media specialist, Mrs Violette Keetui, freelance photographers, Mr Tom Stewart and Ms Shayne Oxden Willows and Guest of Honour, Doctor Andre Van Rooyen, a crop livestock specialist with Icrisat and an acclaimed international photographer.

The event, declared a resounding success by all participants, was an eye opener and source of motivation to all the city’s school media clubs, and demonstrated to students and staff not only the vast importance of effective media, but also the wide range of opportunities available to them.

“While the idea of media clubs in schools is a relatively new one, these clubs are critical in maintaining the visibility of the school in the digital world,” said CBC Headmaster, Mr K. Muhomba. “For some students club activities can just be regarded as a hobby, while for others this could be the foundation or beginning of fulfilling a fruitful career in the media and its related fields.”
