CBC Mourns the Passing Away of Mrs. Menne

It is with great sadness that the College records the passing away of Christina “Chris” Menne on Saturday 9th December 2017.

Chris served the College with true dedication and loyalty for 26 years – from January 1988 until her retirement in December 2014 – and even after retiring she would often return to offer support and help at various functions.

The 2017 U6 Class was ushered out of the gates of Christian Brothers College with a send-off weekend characterised by 2 separate functions; Leavers’ Dinner and Leavers’ Dance. This was a befitting farewell to the turned young men who had first entered the gates of the college as starry-eyed Form Ones in January 2012.

A team from the USA Public Affairs Section EducationUSA visited CBC this morning on a familiarisation tour. The team comprised Mrs Clara Priester (EducationUSA Regional Director East and Southern Africa – Johannesburg Consulate General), Mrs Tafadzwa Muzhandu (EducationUSA Country Director – American Embassy Harare) and Miss Noma Mabhena (EducationUSA Student Advisor – NUST-American Space Bulawayo).

CBC 56th Speech Night and Prize Giving

CBC hosted its 56th Annual Speech Night and Prize Giving ceremony at the Amphitheatre yesterday evening. This was to celebrate the academic, sporting as well as cultural successes and achievements of the boys for the year 2017.

CBC takes part at the Academy of Music Concert

On Friday 22nd October CBC was invited to a combined schools (CBC, Girls College and Falcon College) concert to assist as a fund raiser for the Zimbabwe Academy of Music “Keeping the Doors Open”, aptly titled due to the financial problems that the Academy is facing.

CBC Sharks win the Grant Tilley Trophy

The Sharks have been crowned as new champions of the Grant Tilley water-polo tournament after St John’s and Falcon fell short of the crown on goal difference.
The level of competition throughout the tournament was very high as all teams played exciting waterpolo. Two games had to be decided through penalty shootouts (CBC vs Georges and St John’s vs St Georges).

CBC Eagles come first in the Imbizo District Championships

On Friday 15th September the CBC soccer team (the Eagles) took part in the Imbizo district competitions where they faced other teams which qualified for the district championships.
The Eagles emerged as champions of the district after playing with patience and focus, always looking out for slim opportunities and making the best out of them.

CBC hosted the Matabeleland Schools Media Club meeting today (Friday 15th September), attended by Media Clubs from Petra, Falcon College, Girls College and Dominican Convent. It was a great opportunity of networking and sharing ideas.

CBC Rugby players off to Ireland via South Africa

CBC rugby players, Dez Kay, Denilson Cyprianos, Lwandile Moyo, Ronald Kwindingwi, Amiel Jackson accompanied by their CBC coach, Mr Robinson and Mrs Noe Cyprianos, traveled to South Africa to attend training sessions at the Grootvlei Sport Academy And Adventures. The CBC boys are part of a team which was selected by the Grootvlei academy coaches for the Ireland tour on the 29th of September.

Elphas attends the Africa Youth in Tourism Conference

CBC’s Elphas Mashaba(L6) who is a Minister in the Junior Parliament attended the Africa Youth in Tourism Conference which was hosted at ZITF on the 7th to 8th of September .
The objective of the conference was to show the importance of tourism to the youth in Africa. Amongst the delegates were government officials and youth representatives from all over Africa.

 CBC Boy Takes Part in the Yale Young African Scholars Program

Sidumiso Vuma a Lower Six student took part in the 2017 edition of The Yale Young African Scholars Program (YYAS), a high-intensity residential leadership program that is designed to introduce students to the demanding U.S. university and financial aid application process and requirements. He was part of the 300 high school students selected from all over the continent to take part in the programme hosted in Ghana, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe.

As the 2017 Hockey season has come and gone, the CBC Media Club junior interview team made up of Alex Kehayias, Ricky Basutu, Scott Lumsden and Dylan Androliakos (CBCMedia) invited Skulls Captain Panashe Nyamande (PN) to share his reflections on the team’s performance and achievements this season. Those who know Panashe would agree that he is one of the super sportsmen who fits well in any sporting discipline and where ever he goes he excels.
